Background Information on the Adidas F50 Line of Soccer Cleats:

The Adidas F50 range of soccer cleats is Adidas' customizable range of lightweight soccer cleats designed to directly compete with Nike's Mercurial Vapor line.

The F50's first debuted in 2004, just in time for the 2004 Euros. The name refers to Football 50, a reference to 1954, the year that the West German national soccer team won the FIFA World Cup wearing then revolutionary adidas soccer cleats that featured exchangeable studs. Adidas decided that exactly 50 years after that game changing invention they would introduce another - a super lightweight range of soccer cleats designed to meet the exacting standards of some of the world’s top professional soccer players.

The original F50 was the first Adidas soccer cleat to feature the Fusion Frame System technology. According to Adidas this lets players vary the feel and performance of their shoes according to playing style and conditions during a game.

The concept of the shoe provided a boot and three different interchangeable chassis. The uppers of all of the Adidas F50 line are a combination of Adidas' classic soft kangaroo leather and a light, breathable mesh.

The Adidas F50 evolved into the Adidas F50 Tunit in 2007, boasting a sleeker silhouette and an even lighter weight. Subsequent retools of the Adidas F50 Tunit added a new asymmetrical lacing system and the engineered lightweight microfiber synthetic AdiGrip upper and synthetic lining.

The Adidas F50 Adizero debuted in 2010, just in time to be worn by the likes of Lionel Messi and David Villa at the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The Tunit system was absent from the Adidas Adizero, replaced by a hybrid system that better suits the soccer cleats' extraordinarily light weight.
