ESPN and ABC will Have US Fans Covered for the FIFA 2010 World Cup

Good news for US soccer fans – in June and July you will be able to catch all 64 World Cup matches on TV live and in HD!

44 of the games will be broadcast on ESPN, 10 on ESPN 2 and 10 on ABC, all of them live and available in high definition (there it is, your excuse to buy that new TV). ESPN, who are covering the FIFA World Cup for the eighth time in 2010, also announced that the pre and post-game coverage will be the most extensive they have ever aired.

Appearing in those extra segments sharing their insights will be five former World Cup stars -Ruud Gullit, Steve McManaman, John Harkes, Alexi Lalas and Efan Ekoku – as well as current Premiership manager Roberto Martinez (who currently runs the show at Wigan). Commentators of course include the near legendary Martin Tyler (the guy from FIFA 08, FIFA 09, FIFA 10 etc. if you need a reference point).

The US team kicks off their World Cup campaign against England at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace in Rustenburg. The game is scheduled for the second day of competition, June 12th at 2pm and will broadcast live on ABC HD.

The two other scheduled US matches -Slovenia vs. USA on June 18th at 9.30am and USA vs. Algeria on June 23rd at 9.30 am – will both be broadcast on ESPN.

For those who might have to work during the live broadcast of these games there are alternatives. All the live games will be rebroadcast or if you can get to the internet, ESPN 360 - ESPN’s broadband network – will be simulcasting 54 of the games (although unfortunately not the England/USA clash).
